It was a day of honour for 18-year-old Miss Ayomide Mariam Agoro, a makeup artist, at the Youth Gala Night/Miss Adeboruwa Beauty Pageant when the traditional ruler of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, Council Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Comrade Sesan Mayokun Daini and entire Igbogbo community gave her a rousing ovation as she was crowned Miss Adeboruwa for 2019.
The memorable event, which was held at the Mikson Onas Event Hall, Igbogbo, was part of the activities marking the 2019 Igbogbo Day celebration.
Mariam contested for the coveted crown with eight other young girls each of whom represented other parts of Igbogbo Kingdom.
The new beauty queen, who represented Igbe community, garnered 80.0 points to beat the first runner-up, Grace Opeyemi Jagun (Miss Agunfoye) who scored 76.5 points and the second runner-up, Iyabosola Boluwatife Oyayomi (Miss Bayeku) who scored 72.8 points.
Other contenders were Miss Eregidan, Miss Lajo, Miss Offin, Miss Oreta, Miss Elepe and Miss Selewu.
While in camp for five days, the beauty queens were assessed on interpersonal relation, response and dedication to trainings.
According to Mr Taiwo Oduntan, the leader of the panel that assessed the contestants, he stated that:
“It was a 5-day journey which took off from the camp where their scoring actually started. At camp, they were assessed based on interpersonal relation, response and dedication to trainings.
“Tonight, we are grading them on seven criteria which are intellect, talent, originality, composure, carriage, outfit and creativity”, he added.
Other panelists were Halima Aitsegame, winner of the 2012 Next Movie Star, Barr. Leke Bakare, a legal practitioner and the 2019 Miss Agbeke Eko.
Prince Lati Odusanya, popularly called ‘TySleek’, the Coordinator of the beauty pageant, in his brief address at the Gala night, stated that:
“Miss Adeboruwa is a brand we are planning to take to the highest level to enable it compete favourably with the international beauty pageant”.
Also, in the contest for the Disc Jockey, popularly called ‘Deejays’ , DJ Obat emerged the winner as he convincingly outplayed the other two contenders, DJs Lambo and Solex.
The exciting event also featured dance, merriment as well as presentations of academic and leadership awards to deserving individuals that have contributed to the development of Igbogbo kingdom.
Master Igwe Leonard, a SSS 2 student of Oreyo Senior Secondary School, Igbogbo, was presented Academic Excellence Award (Secondary category), Mr Anuoluwapo Olamilekan Obayomi was awarded Academic Excellence award (Tertiary) while Miss Omotayo Mosunmola was honored for her excellence service to the community and good representation.
Also, Engr Olugbenga Ogunlewe, President of the Conference of Igbogbo Indigene in Civil and Pubic Service (COIICPS), was honoured with the Philanthropist Personality award for his contributions towards the development of Igbogbo and selfless service rendered to humanity while Engr. Femi Kalejaiye, former Chairman of the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, was presented with Exemplary Leadership award.
TySleek, Dagon, Kizzy, Trap, Cboi and Ijebu boy Esere were among some the artistes that entertained the guests at the Gala night while the Unstoppable Dance Family mesmerized the audience with a great choreography performance.
Other notable dignitaries at the event were Hon. Gboyega Titilola, Vice Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Barr. Ade Ayeni, Secretary to the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Mr Gbenga Faniyi, Chairman, 2019 Igbogbo Day Planning Committee and Lion Ade Andu among others.
