The first Secretary to the Lagos State Government and former Commissioner for Education, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, has charged administrators and teachers in public schools across Ikorodu Division to always bring the state of infrastructure in their respective schools to the attention of political leaders in the division.
The elder statesman gave the charge at the award ceremony organized in honour of Mrs Iyabo Agnes Elusakin, the Best Teacher in Nigeria and Alhaja Ogunniyi, who was honored for her feat in 2017 when she emerged as the Best Principal/School Administrator in Nigeria and her impacts on Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, which has led to many academic, cultural and sporting awards for the premier college in Ikorodu .
The event, which was organised by the Ikorodu Division Women Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was held at the Ikorodu Teachers House located within the premises of Oga/Ayangbure/Methodist Primary Schools in Ikorodu, on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
Asiwaju Basorun frowned at over crowdedness in many public schools in Ikorodu Division, describing the situation as carelessness.
He explained that himself and the former Deputy Governor of the State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, recently had a discussion with the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District ll, on the state of schools across the division, particularly on the issue of over crowdness.
He enjoined school administrators and teachers in the division to always bring information regarding deficits in educational facilities in their respective schools to the attention of political leaders in the division for intervention.
“Most of the schools are overcrowded because of lack of accommodations and if you tell us, we will intervene in our own small ways and ensure that things are normal”, he said.
He stated that Ikorodu is not a division where students should not have adequate facilities and conducive educational environment.
“This is not a division where students would be studying under trees in schools. I want to publicly say it here that the moment Mrs Ariyo, the current chairman of TESCOM, heard about it (congestion in schools in Ikorodu), she immediately took action and correction is being made as we speak” , he stated.
“We don’t have to be paid for that but whenever we have such situation, just let us know. By the grace of God, Prince Ogunleye, former SSG (Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya), myself and other leaders of our party are always at your service to deliver your messages”.
Asiwaju Basorun also charged the awardees and other schools’ administrators and teachers to ensure that they bring more academic hnours to Ikorodu.
“While we carry your messages to the appropriate quarters, you should continue to do us proud in our various schools. Let’s us hear that Ikorodu students emerge best in the next WASSCE.
“Let’s hear more good news about the academic performances of our students here in lkorodu”.
