It was yet another day of honour for Mrs Iyabo Agnes Elusakin, the 2019 overall best teacher in Nigeria, on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, as she was honoured with award of Excellence and gift item by the Comrade Olufemi Fakolade led Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ikorodu branch.
The award was in recognition of Mrs Elusakin’s heroic feat for emerging as the best teacher nationally in October while she was a teacher in Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
The celebrated teacher has since been promoted to the position of a Vice Principal and transferred to the Government Senior Model College, Ikorodu.
Comrade Fakolade , speaking at the event, stated that Mrs Elusakin is a pride of Ikorodu and teachers generally, noting many of the other branches of NUT also wanted the honour.
“Ikorodu NUT branch is the best only in Lagos State but also in Nigeria. Aside other major landmark achievements that we have recorded, we have also produced the best teacher in Nigeria”, he stated with pride.
“The truth is that teachers in many other branches in the state wish to be like Ikorodu. They want good things to happen in their own branches to. We have the best teacher in Nigeria; best teacher in Lagos State and also in Education District II”.
The Deputy Chairman, NUT, Lagos State, Comrade (Mrs) Bolanle Adomeh, in her speech at the ceremony, commended Mrs Elusakin for making Ikorodu and entire Lagos State proud.
She stated that the NUT at the state level will also celebrate her for the feat.
Comrade Banjo Moshood, the Chairman of the Endwell Scheme, while also speaking at the ceremony, congratulated teachers in Ikorodu NUT branch for producing the best teacher in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Mrs Elusakin,in an interview with THE IMPACT shortly after receiving the award, thanked Ikorodu NUT branch and entire teachers in the state for the honour and accolades she has been receiving.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Presidency, House of Representatives, Governor of Lagos State and others for honouring her.
Mr Fabiyi Oyeleke, a teacher with A.U.I, Ijede and Mrs Ikuyajola Joke, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta who are adjudged as best dressed male and female teachers respectively at the 2019 World Teachers Day celebration in Ikorodu were also presented with gift items by the NUT, Ikorodu.
Also in recognition of her feat, Mrs Elusakin was honoured with a Special Recognition Award by the Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) at an award dinner/grand finale ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the premier College held at the Ikorodu Musical Village along Awolowo Way, Ikorodu on Friday, November 1, 2019.
