It was not just a lovely evening but one filled with suspense, expectations, display of beauty and physical fitness, as 15 beautiful and well-mannered ladies and 8 strong and well-muscled men stepped took the center stage at the final event of the 2019 Miss Ikorodu and Body Building (Mr Ikorodu) contests held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.
The exciting event was part of the activities of the on-going Ikorodu-Oga Day Carnival and was held at the Ikorodu Town hall.
After rounds of impressive displays and keen contest among the contestants in the two competitions, Miss Omoshalewa Motunrayo Adenuga (representing Sabo area of Ikorodu) with 5’7 height emerged winner of the beauty pageant contest with 385 point, while Mr Aro Tunde, who won in all the categories of the body building contest, emerged the winner of the Mr Ikorodu contest.
Mosunmola Omotayo Aroyewun with 5’9 height, representing Ajina and scoring 350 points and Dorcas Boluwatife Ajayi with 5”9 height, representing Owutu and scoring 320 points, emerged first and second runners-up respectively in the Miss Ikorodu beauty contest.
In the men category, Taiwo Onijagun and Opeoluwa Olarinde claimed the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
All the winners went home with various interesting prizes.
His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, and his amiable wife, Olori Kudirat Shotobi, were at the event to give the much-needed royal and moral supports to Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, Chairman, Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), the organiser of the annual celebration, and his team.
The contests were parts of the Youth/Children’s Activities & Role Model Day of the yearly Ikorodu-Oga Day Carnival.
Aside other pre-event exercises for the contests, contestants for the much-coveted Miss Ikorodu beauty pageant, were camped for three days prior to the main event where they underwent various exercises on which they were scored by judges and their scores at the pre-event exercises, according to the Chief Judge who spoke briefly before the winners were announced, amounted to 65% of their total scores.
During the contest, the contestants stepped out twice in traditional attires and various beautiful gowns as they catwalk to the admiration of the cheering crowd while they also engaged in choreography dance and intelligently responded to questions.
Meanwhile, Otunba Abiru, in his speech, stated that it is IKODASS’ desire to see that youths are cherished and catered for because they are the future of the country.
“It is with pleasure that I stand before you to rejoice and felicitate with you all on this occasion which is specially designed to celebrate the youths in our community.
“It is no longer news that the youths constitute about 60% of our population. We all know that the future of a nation resonates hope when its youths are cherished and catered for. This is our conviction and belief in IKODASS.
“Due recognition will be accorded to issues concerning the development, growth and welfare of the youths”, he pledged.
The winner of Mr Ikorodu contest, Aro Tunde, won truck pulling game, tyre flipping game and yoke carrying race exercises that preceded the final stage of the contest which had 8 contestants.
Other winners in the Miss Ikorodu contest were Miss Solomade (curviest contestant), Miss Ota-Ona (Ebony), Miss Itamaga (hot-leg), Miss Benson (photogenic) and Miss Ajina (intellectual).
