Twenty-four years after graduating from their old school, members of the Class of 1996 set of the Oriwu College have followed in the footsteps of other Old Students Association of Oriwu College, popularly known as Oriwu College Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) in giving back to their alma mata.
Members of the Class on Friday, September 20, 2019, commissioned a water project donated to the school to assist in providing portable water for students and staff members of the school.
Mr. Rasaq Agbaje, the Coordinator of the Class of 1996 set, stated that the project was initiated to aid students’ learning and also to contribute their own quota to the development of the school.
“The project was carried out so as to reduce students’ stress regarding water supply in order to make the school environment conducive and aid the learning process, knowing fully well that water is essential to life.
“This project was conceived due to the need to contribute our quota to the development of our source at this time that it is mostly needed. While in school as students of this great college, we enjoyed a whole lots of facilities. We, thus, considered it apposite to render our untiring support to the younger generation”, he added.
He called on the government to do more in term of provision of necessary facilities in the school and creation of enabling academic environment.
“We appreciate the government for their untiring efforts that have ensured a top-notch conducive environment in the school but we are calling for more as it will aid the learning process”, Agbaje appealed.
The principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, Mrs. Abiodun Ogunniyi , in her remarks, expressed her profound gratitude for the project, stating that it will help to reduce the stress of sourcing for water for the use of the school.
“I appreciate all the members of Class of ’96 present and those that couldn’t grace this occasion. There is no doubt that you have all written your names in the sand of time. Indeed, history will never forget you”, she stated.
Many of the students who were at the commissioning event also expressed their joy over the project and commended the old students for their exemplary gesture.
Other members of the set at the brief commissioning occasion were Elder Awoye, Alhaji F. Oshikoya, Kunle Sopitan, the Secretary, Class of ’96, Doyin Amokunmosa, Taiwo Adeyinka, Rasak Agbaje, Idris Azeez, Taofeek Bello, Muyideen Alli and Dayo Adeyanju.
Also present were staff members of the school among who were Mrs Banmeke, Mrs. Adegoke, Mr. Olowo, Mr. Omotosho, Mr. Ipinmoroti, Mrs. Olowu and Mrs. Ogunesan.
