Lagos State Government has warned the general public to desist from attacking officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and Fire fighting equipment or face the full wrath of the law.
The Acting Head, Lagos Fire Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye gave the warning while reacting to a recent attack by hoodlums on the crew of the State Fire service on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Sam Shonibare Street, Surulere, Lagos, where a Fireman was injured and the side-window and windscreen of the fire truck were damaged during a response to an emergency in the area.
She added that the attack by hoodlums also impeded the crew from carrying out their official duties and lamented the extent of the injury inflicted on one of the officers, describing the Officer as dedicated and hardworking whose motive was to save lives and property.
According to her, “The crew had responded to a distress call and were carrying out their statutory duties when they were attacked by hoodlums at the scene of fire outbreak”.
She noted that in order to prevent confrontation and breakdown of law and order, the officials refrained from fighting back but reported the matter at Surulere Police Division, Area C for necessary action
The Fire boss, therefore, appealed to members of the public to desist from damaging government facilities as lots of taxpayers money were expended in providing the equipment for the safety of Lagosians.
While noting that the negative consequence of unwarranted but coordinated attacks on fire trucks was an indirect denial of other people from benefitting from the dividends of democracy, she assured all and sundry of the readiness of the Officers to fight fires whenever called upon.
