Residents of Odo-Nla have called on the government and police authority to save their lives and properties from attacks by hoodlums.
The community , which is part of Odogunyan community in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, has been under siege of cultists, robbers and other crimes.
The recent appeal was coming on the heel of the invasion of the community in the night of during the week, when some boys , numbering about 30 ,allegedly invaded the community.
According an eyes witness, the invaders ,who were said to be armed with several dangerous weapons, killed three residents, looted shops, robbed houses and injured many others.
“We have been experiencing insecurity in Odo-Nla and entire Odogunyan community and we have cried out for help from the government , especially from the council but there was no response.
“Just last night (Wednesday, August 22)some guys ,numbering about 30 ,stormed Odo-Nla with dangerous weapons like axe, machete, gun and others.
“They killed, maimed, robbed and terrorized the residents. They killed three residents”.
Another eye witness also alleged that “the hoodlums attacked a saloon in Odo-Nla and attacked the boys they met there with dangerous weapons”.
He added that many houses were robbed while several shops were vandalized.
In a phone conversation on Wednesday ,August 22,with the Odo-Nla Community Development Association (CDA) Chairman, Alhaji Olorunnimbe, he confirmed the development.
“Yes, it is true that some people came into our community to attacked people”.
He stated that two deaths and not three were recorded.
Alhaji Olorunimbe also informed our reporter that the policemen have been deployed to the community in the wake of the incident to protect lives and properties of the people.
A political figure ,who did not reveal his name, told THE IMPACT that the attack was cult-related.
He stated that the cult groups have moved from Odogunyan to Odo-Nla, Odo-Kekere and other communities in the area.
Efforts by our reporter to speak with some of the victims were not successful as they declined comments and this, we gathered ,was due to fear of reprisal attack.
Attempts to speak with the Chairman, Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adeola Banjo and the Councilor representing Odogunyan Ward, Hon. Aro ,proved abortive as calls made to their mobile phones across were not picked as at the time of going to press.
