Hon. Adeshina Marks 2 Years With Empowerment Schemes

The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adedeji Adesina, on Tuesday (today), marked his second year in office with empowerment schemes for party members, market men and women and other residents.

At the well-attended ceremony, which was held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, 12 party men and women that have contributed immensely to the development of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu were given one acre of land with each allotted half a plot.

About twenty market men and women were also given products such as crates of soft drinks, cartons of can beers, cartons of indomie, cartons of beers, cartons of bottle water, bags of rice, garri and beans, rolls of Ankara fabrics, shoes and many other items. They were also presented with N20, 000 cash each.

APC Secretary, former and present party ward chairmen and others were also presented with 10 micro buses by the council as empowerment.

Adeshina, in his address at the event, stated that the empowerment programmes were facilitated to encourage and support businesses and enjoined party people and residents to continue giving their supports to the ruling party.

“Today marks our second year in office and it is my pride that we are putting smiles on people’s faces. We have three good empowerment programmes for our people”, he stated.

“One acre of land is being shared among twelve party members for their diligence. They have been committed and dedicated to the party. We are using this to thank them. You can see the smiles on their faces when we were making the presentations.

“Apart from that, several deserving traders, who we believed that we can improve their trades, were given products and cash donations of not less than N20, 000 each to further assist their trades.

“There was also presentation of micro-mini buses to some of our party members and members of the public. Ten of them benefited from the gestures which are parts of their dividends of democracy.

“We are doing this to further strength our party “, he explained.

He added that the micro bus scheme would be a continuous one while adding that the council will pay the initial deposits while beneficiaries are expected to pay the balance on the buses to the bank on daily basis.

“Let me assure the people of Ikorodu that this is the first series of our empowerment programme. The second phase will soon kick off where another ten beneficiaries will also be given mini buses.

“The bus is self-repayment bus. The initial deposit has been paid by the council and the beneficiaries will be paying N2000 on daily basis to the bank after a month moratorium that they will be given. Ikorodu Local Government is partnering with a micro finance bank and another bank for the scheme”.

While rendering his account of stewardship in the last two years, Hon Adesina stated that:

“Ikorodu Local Government, being regarded as the Local Government of emulation, has, in the past seven hundred and thirty days (730 days), achieved greatly according to the scorecard. Some of our modest achievements are either completed or ongoing.

In the area of environmental and waste management services, the council boss listed ‘kick refuse out of Ikorodu’ as well as celebration of tree planting exercise under  Agriculture and the hosting of the 2018 International Day of the Older Persons under Rural and Social Development as parts of his administration’s achievements.

Stating his achievements under the community development, the chairman stated that the council partnered with the Community Development Committee (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) in executing projects such as drainages and others.

It was also stated that the council partnered with the federal government for in-house training of residents for N-power Agro Employees in 2017.

In the area of primary health care, Hon. Adesina stated that the council fully rehabilitated the Agura Primary Health Centre (PHC); sensitization programmes on LASSA fever and monkey pox; hosting of maternal newborn child health week, hosting of 2018 Measles Vaccination Campaign (MVC); hosting of first round of the National Immunization Plus Day and Vaccination Campaign Exercise among others.

Stating his administration’s achievements in the area of Education and Library Services, the chairman stated that the council has continued to contribute in great measures towards the socio-educational development of youths.

He added that : “It excites me to state here that the Local Government has completed the construction of modern toilets alongside a newly constructed fence in Salvation Army Primary School, Ikorodu”.

He stated that his administration sponsored 13 women to participate in the annual conference of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State (COWLSO) out of which one of them won a ticket for a trip to Ghana.

Hon Adesina added that his administration also empowered 14 women from seven wards in Ikorodu Local government area as part of its achievements in the area of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).

The chairman also announced his administration’s achievements under the Works, Housing and Infrastructure to include the rehabilitation of Adeyeri Owuyo Street in collaboration with Zenith Bank, resurfacing of roads at Obun-Oke, Itamito and Ita Aro and construction of drainages at Gintin, AP junction in Mowo-Nla, Sabo market, Arowolo and Sholafun Streets in Anibaba, Itagbodo and others.

He listed the construction of roads with interlocking blocks at the Sabo market  and provision of Street light at Itamito.

Hon Adesina stated that his administration also repaired and graded roads with Street light at Ita Elewa, Ireshe and Ota Ona and construction of fence and toilet facilities at Salvation Army Primary School.

Speaking on his administration’s plans for the next two years, Hon. Adeshina listed rehabilitation of Ikorodu Cementary at Ojokoro, roads and others as projects that his administration plans to achieve.

“We are moving straight into the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu Local Government Cementary. We are going to improve the standard of the cementary and put it in a modern form and make it befitting.

“The local government has also approved the rehabilitation of some roads. One of these is Oni Ogunsanya road and work will start immediately on it. Apart from that, we are going to reconstruct the drainage at Itundomigaran and make the top walkway for the residents.

“We intend to rehabilitate the road at Jamaltul which is not motorrable and handover a completed block of 6 toilet facility at the Salvation Army Primary School to SUBEB for the usage of the pupils.

“We are also planning to move into Agura to address the terrible state of the road in the area. The local government alone cannot do it and so, we are appealing to the state government and other necessary authorities to assist us in rehabilitating the road. Although, they have promised to do it but we are not going to rest on our oars in appealing to them until the road becomes motorable.

“I appeal to the residents to continue supporting our party, appreciate our hardwork and support us”.

While stating that the first two years of his administration have been challenging, Hon. Adeshina thanked party leaders and people for entrusting him with their mandate and the support given so far.

“The last two years have been very challenging due to the politicking that preceded the election but thank to our party, especially the national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been of tremendous support to the party at the national and state levels.

“I also want to thank other leaders like Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, former Secretary to the State Government, and Asipa Kaoli Olusanya and others.

“I also want to thank the special guest of honour , Hon. Jimi Benson, as well as former Secretary to the State Government, Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya, former Commissioner for Physical Planning & Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, and APC Chairman in Ikorodu, Alhaji Taiwo Longe and a host of others”.
