– Residents adopt former Lagos Youth Parliament Leader as CDA Chairman
– HOD, former Council Scribe, others set agenda for communal growth
Residents of Irepodun Community Development Association (CDA), Olopomeji area of Odogunyan town in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), of Lagos State, has inaugurated her fourth Executives to direct its affairs for the next two years.
The newly sworn in Executives is chaired by the former Leader of second Lagos State Youth Parliament and a two term Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Ikorodu North Chapter, Alhaji Olalekan Murisiku.
Inaugurated alongside with him are: Vice Chairman – Mr Emmanuel Jayeola, Vice Chairman, Mr Wasiu Tugbebo, General Secretary, Mr Olasoji Taiwo, Asst Secretary, Mr Ojo Ojelade, Financial Sec – Mr, Afolabi Akinsola and Treasurer Mr Usman Nurudeen.
Others were Welfare Officer -1, Madam Elizabeth Coker, Welfare Officer -2, Mrs Oluwakemi Owolabi, PRO -1, Mr Rotimi Hassan, PRO 2 – Mr Tajudeen Salami, Auditor -1, Mrs Bisi Oladeinde, Auditor -2, Mrs Taiwo Awosanya
Inaugurating the new Executives, the Head of Department of Agric, Rural and Social Development in Ikorodu North LCDA, Mrs Folashade Tobun, implored the CDA Executives to act in accordance with the laws of Lagos State that established Community Development Associations in order not to face the wrath of the law.
Mrs Tobun was represented by her assistant, Mr Olalekan Kuti.
The HOD stated the functions of each of the Executives before performing the swearing-in, and also warned against poor management of funds contributed by residents for self-help projects.
“The law that establishes CDA’s in Lagos State frowned at keeping Community Development Association’s money at home or in individual’s bank accounts. Any individual or group of people who embezzle Community money will surely face the music”
“You are expected to identify, raise money and manage resources of the community very well. The execute self-help project(s) must be agreed upon by all the executive members with support of the residents.
Mrs Tobun noted condemned the inability of the immediate past executive members of the CDA for failure to properly handover the association’s account and other documents.
“ It was fundamentally wrong for your predecessor not to handover books of accounts, attendance register, membership register, certificate of registration issued by the local government, and all property of the CDA to newly constituted executives for proper usage at the end of their tenure” she stated
She presented a copies of the constitution of the Lagos State Community Development (Advisory) Council and Law to provide for the Registration of Community Development Associations and for other Connected Matters to the new Chairman of Irepodun CDA, Alhaji Olalekan Murisiku.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Mathew Adesanya, charged the newly inaugurated chairman and his executive council members to impact positively on the community by making effective use of the human and materials resources at their disposal.
The newly inaugurated CDA Chairman, Alhaji Olalekan Murisiku in his acceptance speech thanked residents for the confidence repose in him, while also noting that the Executives were aware of the task ahead of them.
Alhaji Murisiku said his administration is open to constructive criticism to achieve the best.
“It is an enormous task ahead of me and my team to continue the progressive journey our founding fathers have started. As your Chairman, I know I have a daunting task before me. I shall display the highest level of commitment and loyalty to our communal interest towards engendering development”.
“Let me state categorically that, perfection belong to only Allah the uncreated Creator of all creatures. Please and please, when we make mistakes as Executives, do not hesitate to call our attention to such error as this administration is open to constructive criticism to achieve the best. But when we fail to take to corrections, please and please fight us patiently and genuinely with love”, He explained.
He assured that the executives would strive to the best of their ability to be transparent and accountable in our dealings.
