Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has advised young Nigerians to embrace moral value building societies like the Scout Association rather than fall prey to cultism.
Speaking today while receiving a delegation of the Lagos State Scout Council on a courtesy visit to his Ikeja office, Dr. Hamzat opined that the role of organisations like the scout has become more important in this era when youths, as young as nine years old are now cultists.
While urging people to resist negative peer influences that usually lead them to vices and crime, he implored those already in the association to adhere strictly to the principles that have over the years made it an organization for young vibrant people, stressing that the Sanwo-Olu led government is committed to the ideals of the Association.
Earlier, the Leader of the team and State Council Commissioner, Mr. Adebesin Oyeyemi described the scout council an organization determined to mould character and contribute to the education of young people who join its fold.
According to him, ‘The mission of scouting is to contribute to the education of these young people and ensure positive value change’.
Oyeyemi averred that parents need to create time to know their children and wards despite their busy schedule, adding that by so doing, a large number of young people will be weaned off crime.
Speaking on the participation of the Nigeria Scout at the 24th World Jamboree, holding between the 22nd July to 2nd August 2019, in West Virginia U.S.A, he disclosed that Lagos State has 91 members out of the 230 members that will be attending the jamboree.
Present at the event were the Permanent Secretaries of the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Odejayi and Dr. (Mrs) Bolajoko Balogun of Youth, Sports and Social Development among others.
