The long standing protest against the marginalization of Ikorodu division within the Lagos State political arrangement re-echoed on Sunday, June 16,2019, during the swearing-in ceremony of the new executive council that will steer the ship of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association(IKODASS) in the next two years.
The latest protest was coming from no other man than the former Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Chairman, Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Otunba Ganiyu Abiru.
While delivering his acceptance speech shortly after he was sworn-in as IKODASS Chairman for the second term, Otunba Abiru alleged that Ikorodu division and its people have not been favoured in the governance of Lagos state while also calling on the present administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to correct the alleged marginalization.
“Everyone of us here seated will agree with me that Ikorodu division and its indigenes have not been well favoured in the governance of Lagos State.
“Nothing in Ikorodu shows the presence of government whereas, other divisions are witnessing tremendous infrastructural developments. The division remains neglected despite our massive population which, unofficially, is over 3 million.
“Our schhols are all in ignoble state of disrepair while hospitals are inadequate to take care of our population and our roads are the worst compare to other divisions of the State.
“We call on the present administration to redress the situation. As a body charged with the responsibility of ensuring accelerated developments of the kingdom, we call on the present administration to infrastructurally transform Ikorodu Division and remember its indigenes in the State political appointments.
“Ikorodu division indigenes can no longer be hewers of woods and drawers of water in a comity where the division is a strategic stakeholder”, Abiru stated.
Otunba Abiru assured Ikorodu people that IKODASS will continue to speak and champion the cause of the people and the division at large.
“Let me also assure Ikorodu people that IKODASS will continue to champion their cause and also ensure that we are not deprived our legitimate rights in this present dispensation”, he assured.
