Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Peter Gana, Commander , Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State
The Commander, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Peter Gana, has stated that a reformed SARS is now operating in Lagos State.
The head of the special unit of the Nigerian police force revealed this at the send forth ceremony organized by O’Gunju Security Limited in Ikorodu in honour of the former OC (Officer in Charge) SARS in Ikorodu, SP Godfrey Osiwerei .
The event was held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat hall in Ikorodu on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently directed the Inspector-General of Police, Federal Ministry of Justice and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to work out modalities for the implementation of the report of the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) within three months.
The President gave the directive while receiving the 2804-page report from the Panel headed by the Executive Secretary of NHRC, Tony Ojukwu, at the State House on Monday, June 3, 2019. .
The Lagos SARS Commander also assured residents of Ikorodu of continuous safety of lives and properties with the new Commander, DSP Rotimi Ogunmuyiwa.
SP Godfrey Osiwerei spent about five years fighting militancy , kidnapping, robbery and other crimes in Ikorodu.
Gana described SP Osiwerei as a dedicated officer who faced daunting security challenges in Ikorodu and added that the former Commander faced the challenges headlong.
“We have conceived many ideals together and each time that I called him, no matter the hour of the night, he had always answered.
‘‘He has never embarked on any operation without my knowledge, not minding the fact that he operates wth some level of f independence and autonomy. He carried me along in everything that he did.
“Let me assure you that we (SARS) will do more in Ikorodu. We won’t just allow all these legacies go by. We are going to build on the legacies and structure that he has established in Ikorodu and take it to a greater height by the grace of God”.
CSP Gana also described the sendforth event as one of the good rewards for a good officer on earth.
He disclosed that he has never received any negative report about SP Osiwerei through out the 5 years that he was incharge of SARS in Ikorodu.
“If anyone complain about him, my answer was always that he could be him (SP Osiwerei). Although, he stayed here, I have never received a single negative report about him. Continue to do whatever the law says, It is only the law that you are accountable to”, he said while praising SP Osiwerei.
