-Congratulates Gov Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Zubairu Mazur, to curtail the activities of cult members in Ikorodu area of the state.
The cultism menace in Ikorodu was brought before the House by the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the representative of the Ikorodu Constituency I, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, under the Urgent Matter of Public Importance, on Monday, June 3, 2019.
Hon. Agunbade informed the House that the gang war by cultists, which has claimed many lives and almost brought the social and economic lives in the town to a state of comatose, is affecting the peace of the area.
He stated that the gang deadly clashes among rival cult members have made life unbearable for the people of Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
The Majority Leader added that the rampaging cult members have turned Ikorodu to a theatre of war.
“Once it is 6pm, people in Ikorodu Constituency 1, particularly those in Ikorodu North and Ikorodu Central, would be afraid of going about their normal businesses”.
He urged his colleagues to call on the Commissioner of Police in Lagos to tackle the menace.
“I want the House to call on the Commissioner of Police in the state to intervene in the violence going on in Ikorodu and control the activities of the cultists so that peace can return to the area,” he said.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, in his response, stated that it was not out of place to call on the Commissioner of Police to arrest the situation in Ikorodu area and restore normalcy to the area.
Obasa then ordered the Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni, to write the Commissioner of Police to curtail the activities of the cult members in Ikorodu area. The Speaker’s position was supported by all the members who adopted it as the resolution of the House through a voice vote.
Meanwhile, the House also agreed to write a congratulatory letter to the new Governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, following the Speaker’s request to formally welcome the governor to the State.
He added that it was necessary for the House to welcome the Governor to the state and wish him a successful tenure since he had just resumed duty.
