-Expresses desire to be the best Deputy ever
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat officially resumed duty at his “Round House” Office in Alausa with a pledge to work hard towards being the best Deputy Governor ever in the country.
He assumed officially on Friday, a day after His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu assumed office as the 6th Civilian Governor of Lagos State.
Hamzat, who was received by the Permanent Secretary in the Office, Mrs. Yetunde Odejayi and other staff, said that the State is privileged to have two technocrats at the helm of affairs at this period, noting that the experience they had both garnered while serving in previous administrations would make policy implementation a seamless effort.
He gave assurance that they would add value to governance due to their knowledge and familiarity with the running of the State machinery.
While emphasising that good governance is the benchmark of a stable democracy, Hamzat affirmed that the current administration under Governor Sanwo-Olu would ensure that the standard of living of Lagosians is enhanced through commitment to the six Pillars of Development agenda of Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education & Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment & Tourism, Security and Governance (T.H.E.M.E.S).
“The purpose of good governance is to ensure that we build a just and virile country where everybody will enjoy and have free access to quality education, infrastructure, housing, good network of roads, information technology and good social life,” the Deputy Governor stated.
He called on public servants to improve their performance towards quality policy formulation and implementation, stating that the regular influx of people into the State has put pressure on infrastructure, therefore necessitating the need to shore up the State’s finances to meet the demands of its ever-rising population.
Hamzat urged the staff to work in harmony and help the government to drive the vision of building a country that Nigerians will be proud of, while also pledging that they would be supported to enjoy training and retraining as well as modern equipment that would engender excellence in the discharge of their duties.
The Deputy Governor also called on the media to report government programmes and policies objectively by crosschecking their facts to stem the tide of unregulated and fake news on social media.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary said that the Civil Servants in the office are ever ready to cooperate with the new Deputy Governor to achieve the campaign promises.
She also gave assurance that they would double their performance in order to ensure the success of the Sanwo-Olu-led administration
