In what appears like a scene from the Nollywood (Yoruba) movie, a security man allegedly murdered his colleague on a night duty at the premises of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu main campus.
THE IMPACT gathered that both the victim and his alleged killer are not among the institution’s security personnel but are among the out-sourced security men employed to compliment the efforts of those that were employed by the management .
It was alleged that both men fought themselves using their raffles in what some sources described as a spell. But the authority of the institution has since denied this.
According to authorized sources, the alleged killer allegedly attacked his colleague unexpectedly with machete when he was unarmed.
.
A senior staff member of the school, who spoke with our reporter on phone on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press on the matter, stated:
“It was not a gun attack at all. It was a case of a security man killing the other with a machete. In addition, there was only one victim while the other was a suspect”, he clarified.
Mr Lanre Kuye, the Deputy Registrar (Information)/Public Relations Officer of LASPOTECH , while also speaking with our reporter, stated that the incident was not a gun incident but a case of an outsourced security man killing his colleague with a machete.
He stated that the Polytechnic management has invited the police authority to investigate and determine the next line of action.
“We have invited the police authority to investigate the matter because it involved a murder. We, as an institution, is not involved at all.
“Right now, I cannot make any further statement regarding the matter. You can contact the police for further details”, Mr Kuye stated.
Meanwhile, other sources, that also refused to give their names, described the incident as ritual killing. They hinged their argument on the fact that the victim was murdered and dismembered.
“This is a clear case of ritual killing. The said security man waited till others on night duty left the scene before attacking his colleague with cutlass and later cut parts of his body”, the sources stated”.
Another source, who also expressed same view, added that the situation calls for serious concern on the part of the institution’s management.
“It is quite saddening that this kind of unfortunate incident happened when we are still finding ways to resolve the face-off between the management and the unions. It is a bad omen. I expect the management to rise up to the occasion in dealing with this matter”, he stated.
Attempts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP. Bala Elkana, did not yield any result as at the press time.
