Members from the over 200 associations and clubs that are registered and financial members of Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) will today elect new officers to pilot the affairs of the socio-cultural body responsible for the organization of the annual state recognized ‘Ikorodu-Oga Day’
THE IMPACT gathered that only about 70 associations and clubs are eligible to vote during the election
Aside the clubs and associations, there are one representative each of the Market Men & Women association, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Public Service Forum and Community Development Association (CDA)/Central Development Committee (CDC)
The date of the election was announced by the Electoral committee led by former Council administrator and retired school principal, Alhaji Lemmy Anibaba, about a month
For the position of the chairman, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, who is the current chairman of the association, will be going to the poll with Alhaji Olusanya Hakeem.
Abiru who emerged as the chairman of the group via a landslide victory was compelled to re-contest for the position by the traditional institutions, market leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders in Ikorodu when he decided not to re-contest for second term
He was prevailed upon to re-contest to consolidate on the achievements of his administration in the last two years.
If you will recall, Dr Olukoya, the Medical Director, General Hospital, Ikorodu who had collected the nomination form for the IKODASS Chairmanship position stepped down for the incumbent at the last stakeholders meeting where Otunba Abiru accepted to re-contest for the position in the interest of the association and community.
Other positions that are going to be contested for at the election slated for 1pm at the Ikorodu Town hall are the Publicity Secretary and Social Seccretary
A civil servant and an energetic community activist, Mr. Bada Adekunle Eniola will be slugging it out with the Vice Chairman of the korodu Local Government and public commentator, Princess Folashade-Oba for the position of the Publicity Secretary of the association
For the position of the Social Secretary, the incumbent Mr. Ishaq Bisiriyu, who is seeking another term, will have to contend with Alhaji Kabat Ajalogun
According to a source within the Electoral Committee, ten positions are unopposed.
