Rehabilitate Sekumade Road In Ikorodu, Reps Tell FG

The House of Representatives on Wednesday,  April 24,2019, urged the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to immediately fix the deplorable Sekumade road,  also known as Port Authority/Ipakodo-Ogolonto road, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Southwest , Nigeria.

The House, in passing the motion, directed its Committees on Nigeria Customs and Excise, Ports, Harbors and Waterways, Works and Legislative Compliance, to ensure that the decision is implemented.

THE IMPACT has, in the last few weeks, given extensive reports on the terrible state of the road and the danger the indiscriminate parking of trucks on the road poses.

The lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson, had moved a motion on the deplorable state of the road on Wednesday, calling for action.

The lawmaker, this evening (yesterday), wrote on his facebook wall:

“Following a motion I moved today, the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to immediately commence palliative works on the Ogoloto-Ebute road to ensure that travel time is reduced.

“And the Committees on Nigeria Customs and Excise, Ports, Harbors and Waterways, Works and Legislative Compliance have also been mandated to ensure implementation of the motion.”

He urged the Federal Government to give prompt attention to the rehabilitation of the road.

“I trust that the Federal Government will see reasons with the House Representatives and give quick attention to the road for the benefit of all commuters in Ikorodu Federal Constituency.”

The road, which was primarily designed as a link and access road, has deteriorated and now poses danger to road users due to lack of attention from the government.

Several portions of the road have been taking over by massive potholes which are now causing heavy traffic on daily basis and also damaging vehicles.

Another major concern on the road, according to residents, is the ‘madness’ by the heavy duty trucks belonging to Dangote Industry and Port Authority.

The truck drivers park indiscriminately on the road,  thereby putting lives of road users in danger and gradually replicating Apapa and Ijora gridlock in Ikorodu in the process.
