-Prince Ogunlewe, Dr Abatan, Hon. Banjo, Hon Daini, others honoured
The Deputy Registrar (Information & Public Relations Officer) of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Mr Lanre Kuye, has emerged as the 2019 Starlight ‘Ikorodu Man of the Year” (IMOYA).
He was honoured at the award ceremony held at the Ikorodu Town hall on Saturday, April 22, 2019.
The Chairman of the award ceremony, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom and former Commissioner for Information, Lags State, while speaking at the event, commended the organizer of IMOYA for putting into consideration his holiday abroad by bringing the award ceremony earlier for him to attend.
“I want to congratulate Olaribigbe (Starlight newspaper’s Publisher) for doing a wonderful job in this division.
“He is a star on his own. He is somebody representing Ikorodu division very well.
“A number of the awardees are my sons, brothers and friends like Prince Lanre Kuye, Comrade Sesan Daini, Dr Fatai Abatan and others. If three or four of my brothers and sons are being honoured, I also want to see myself as a celebrant”, he stated while showing his acceptance for some of the awardees .
“I want to implore all of us to continue to support what Olabirigbe and his paper is doing in this division. We should be aware that without newspaper, particularly print media, we will all be in the darkness.
“Ninety percent of what we are reading on social media are not true but the print media are always careful with fake news and false materials. Although, I am a social media person but I rely more on the print media for my information. By the time I read two or three newspapers on a particular issue, I will have good understanding of what actually happened”, he said.
Prince Damola Olaribigbe, the organizer of the annual award and Publisher of Starlight magazine, in his speech, stated that his organization is trying to establish an institution that would bring together people in Ikorodu division and promote unity and harmony among them.
“What we are doing is to put in place an institution that will put Ikorodu division on the path that will foster unity in the division and also enhance harmony and inter-relationship and togetherness. “
He stated that Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo won the maiden edition of the award in 2015 while the Opomulero of Ikorodu, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, won the 2016 edition.
He stated that further that Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, Chairman, Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), whom he described as a distinguished personality and community man per excellence, won the award in 2017.
Presenting the 2018 winner of the award, Olaribigbe stated that :
“Today, I have the privilege of celebrating this man called Alhaji Lanre Kuye who I never knew was my cousin when he encouraged me and brought me closer to himself.”
Meanwhile, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, while presenting the award to Alhaji Lanre Kuye, stated that :
“This is an honourable award which signifies the contributions of Kuye to the development of Ikorodu division.
“This is an outstanding award. “
He also enjoined people to be mindful of their acts and contributions to their community.
Also, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, while presenting the IMOYA 2019 award to the winner, commended him for his contributions to the division.
Winners in the Role model award category were Mr Saheed Anibaba (Ikorodu Central), Hon. Sesan Dada (Ikorodu West), Hon. Adeola Banjo (Ikorodu North), Engr. Gbenga Ogunlewe (Igbogbo/Bayeku), Rtn. Demola Olutusin (Ijede) and Mr Olumide Metilelu (Imota).
In the Promising youth category – Hon. Azeez Jimoh Olosugbo (Ikorodu Central), Comrade Muhydeen Olatunji (Ikorodu West), Hon. Olakanmi Tijani (Ikorodu North), Ln Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa (Igbogbo/Bayeku), Comrade Habeeb Raji (Ijede) and Comrade Folarin Adegboyega.
More so, outstanding individuals like Prince Segun Ogunlewe (Pillar of Development),, Dr Abiodun Abatan (Public Servant of the year), Comrade Sesan Daini (Chairman of the year), Hon. M. K. O. Arowolo (Councilor of the year), Mr Azeez Lamina (Youth of the year), and Prince Taofeek Gbadebo (Agent of Youth Development) were all honored for their immense contributions to the community.
