Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom
Former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and the Agbaakin of Ikoodu Kingdom, Otunba (Sir) Ayodele Elesho, has appealed to sons and daughters of Ikorodu to be ready to give maximum support to the Chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, after he accepted to run for a second term to consolidate on his achievements.
Otunba Abiru whose first term is coming to an end in a few days time, stated last year that he would not be seeking for a second term due to some reasons but has, however, rescinded his decision on Saturday (April 20) due to enormous pressure from the traditional institutions and other stakeholders in Ikorodu.
Speaking after Abiru had announced that he would be seeking reelection, Otunba Elesho stated that the people of the town must be ready to give the IKODASS. Chairman maximum support whenever he calls for it having listened to the popular demand to contest IKODASS Chairmanship for another term.
“I want to appeal to every stakeholders, sons and daughters of Ikorodu, both home and abroad, regarding Abiru. He has accepted our calls and persuasion because of his love for Ikorodu, whenever he asks for support in any form, we must answer him”, Otunba Elesho appealed.
It is important to say this because one good turn deserves another. We must show him love and support whenever he asks us for it. “
” Whenever he needs our support, either politically or in whatever area, we must all stand up to lend him the support.
“I have been calling him to ask him to reconsider his position but he has not been picking my calls.
“All I wanted to tell him is that he should accept the request of the people when the ovation is loudest because if he does not, people will tag him as arrogant.
“I thank God today that he has reconsidered his decision and accepted the call of the entire Ikorodu people to serve again.
Otunba Elseho also spared some harsh words for the people that are saying that Abiru lacks integrity for reconsidering his decision not to re-contest.
“Tell those that are saying that Abiru lacks integrity for listening to calls by Ikorodu people that they are the ones without integrity. They are the enemies of Ikorodu who does not want positive change and development for this town.
“Segun (Abiru) only listened to the voice of reason by agreeing to re-contest . We are the ones that pleaded with him against his interest and decision “, Elesho stated.
Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, after emerging as the chairman of Ikorodu-Oga Development Association in 2017 through an election, rebranded the annual Ikorodu-Oga Day celebration and his administration also succeeded in getting state government’s recognition for the almost 30 years old annual celebration.
The retired Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, aspired to represent the people of Lagos East Senatorial District as a Senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last electioneering process but later withdrew his aspiration before the primary elections of the party.
