An international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the United States of America (USA), Distance Relatives, has donated educational materials to the pupils of Aga primary School in Ikorodu.
The event, which took place on Sunday, April 14 and Monday, April, 15, 2019, was facilitated by the three-term representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency and the Senior Special Assistant to the President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Educational items like exercise books, pens , pencils , crayons, school bags and trainers were donated to the pupils.
Miss Afolayan Motunromobi, a primary six pupil and the best pupil in Aga Primary School, was presented with a laptop and other education materials while the donors encouraged her to make good use of the laptop in order to enable her achieve her dream of becoming a medical doctor.
They also pledged to monitor her educational progression.
Speaking at the presentation on Sunday, Hon. Erewa challenged the pupils to study and strive hard to attain greatness in life.
“Coming here today reminded me of the fact that I was once like you. Right now, I am seeing myself in you.
“You can be whatever you want to be if you study and work hard.
“I have some people here today all the way from America. God has blessed them and they are in turn giving back to the society by donating some items to you and your school.
The three representatives of the organization also spoke at the brief event which was graced by the former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Management and former Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government, Otunba Saheed Ibikunle, and Principal,Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi.
Speaking at the event, Mr William Asiedu, one of the donors’ representatives, stated that their presence in the school was to encourage and empower the pupils.
“We are here to encourage and empower you all with our donations.
“We want you to keep going and studying so that you can be whoever you want to be in life”.
Another member of the organization, Mr Giliord Nana who disclosed that he grew up in Ghana before moving to the United States of America, stated that :
“I can see a lot in you guys and we are here to encourage you to maximize your potentials.
“I started like you guys and today, here we are. I want you to follow your paths”.
Another representative of the organization, Mr Enoch Ofori, in his own remarks, stated that :
“You should pray hard, work hard and study hard.
“You have to make your parents happy when they look at you tomorrow”, he stated”.
The organization pledged to make the donation a continuous exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Miss Afoloyan Motunromobi, thanked the group for the donations.
