The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, has stated that the just concluded 2018/18 examinations of the institution were conducted in line with the best global practices.
The institution’s management also debunked claim that the examinations were fraudulent.
These statements were coming on the heel of an alleged claim by a staff of the institution who, during an interview with a news medium (not THE IMPACT), cast aspersion on the conduct of the examinations.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the institution , Mr Olanrewaju Kuye, the management debunked the allegation.
The image maker of the institution also stated that the examinations were well conducted in line with best global practices, including both internal and external moderation of questions.
“The examinations went through the process of best global practices from the internal and external moderation of questions to the conduct of main examinations.
“Adequate security and medical services, power supply and all other essential needs were put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations despite the non – academic staff unions’ several attempts at disrupting the academic exercise”.
The statement, which disclosed that Mr Salami has been removed as Vice Chairman of the Academic Staff Union (ASUP) of the institution, also added that he fully participated in the examinations and graded students that sat for the examinations.
“It should be on record that Mr Salami , who granted the interview that cast aspersion on the conduct of the examinations, was never a member of the Non-Academic Staff Union let alone being the spokesperson of the said union as he claimed. Rather, he was the vice chairman of the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic, the position which he has since been relieved of alongside other executive members of the union for gross misconduct against the members of the union.
“It should also be noted that Mr Salami participated fully in the invigilation of the examinations, graded the students scripts and had since submitted his results. There was no time he reported any wrong doing throughout the examinations .
The statement also alleged that members of the non-academic union also planned to sabotage the last examinations but that the plan was thwarted by the institution.
“It would be recalled that the non academic staff unions addressed a press conference to disrupt the first semester 2018/2019 examinations, and made real their threat by cutting off water supplies, medical services and power supplies, including the generating set. But the Management of the institution thwarted their plans with the support of the security agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations that started on Monday, 4th March 2019 and lasted for three weeks hitch free”, the release stated.
