Lagos Traffic Radio, LTR 96.1FM has been advised to develop a stronger customer relationship and explore a mutually-beneficial partnership with key players in the transportation industry.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan gave the advice over the weekend during the 2019 retreat organised for officials of the broadcast outfit in Lekki area of the State.
Bamigbetan said that a relationship with Airlines, Rail and Waterway operators to facilitate discounts for the broadcast station’s loyal listeners is desirable, saying that such initiative would attract a larger audience and create value for its listeners.
He opined that such partnerships could also expose school children to the operations of the various means of transportation like rail, water, and even air, thereby increasing the knowledge base of students and eliminating the palpable fears associated with using any of the modes of transportation.
While noting that the radio station is already developing a brand for itself under the leadership of its current General Manager, Mr. Tayo Akanle, he urged the media-outfit to identify youths who will serve as Traffic Radio ambassadors to support the vigorous push of the organisation’s brand to various stakeholders in the industry.
He commended the holistic coverage and dissemination of transportation information available across the State, stressing that the enhanced use of social media handles by the station will enable listeners to make informed decisions on Road, Maritime Shipping Position, Airline, and Train travel across Lagos and adjoining towns.
On his part, the General Manager of LTR, Tayo Akanle stated that the retreat provides an opportunity for management of Traffic Radio to seek the support and cooperation of the entire workforce towards achieving a common goal.
He recalled that the outcome of the maiden edition of the agency’s management retreat held last year resulted in the new Vision and Mission statements as well as Core Values which had assisted the agency in driving its activities towards enhancing the social service component of its mandate.
“Lagosians can now get traffic information and updates on water transportation, rail and flight schedules, including shipping positions, with emphasis on roads. We shall continue to undertake these tasks with ardent passion, vigour and commitment”, he asserted.
Akanle urged the participants at the retreat to make concerted efforts that will bring positive and innovative changes to reposition the broadcast outfit for effective service delivery. “I urge you to always seek to be better than you were yesterday,” the General Manager counselled.
One of the facilitators at the retreat, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, a retired Director-General of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC, Magodo, described the retreat as an event needed to put all members of staff on the same page in the pursuit of the organisation’s Vision, Mission and Core Values.
She said the theme of the event, “Re-energizing the workforce for improved productivity”, underscored the need for Lagos Traffic Radio to carve a niche for itself among broadcast outfits reporting traffic situations in the State by leveraging on its experience as the pioneer radio in reporting traffic news.
Fabanwo also called on members of the public to trust the radio outfit as the most authentic and reliable radio station with human and material resources to give timely and genuine traffic update across the length and breadth of the State.
