In declaring the incumbent President and the candidate of the All progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammudu Buhari, as the winner of the 2019 Presidential election, the INEC Chairman stated that Buhari scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the constitutional provision of winning 25 per cent in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
“That Muhammadu Buhari, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the provision of the electoral act is hereby declared the winner of the presidential election.’’
He polled 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 out of the 36 states, while the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate that emerged as runner-up, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku polled 11, 255,978 votes and won 17 states and Abuja.
Buhari won the election in Bauchi, Borno, Ekiti, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Osun, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara.
While the PDP candidate Atiku won in Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and the FCT.
