The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of the governorship and House of Assembly candidates in Lagos State.
On the final list of the candidates for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections slated for March 2, 2019, 45 political parties have fielded candidates to succeed the incumbent governor of the state, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, while 625 candidates are ready to do battle across the constituencies in the state for just 40 seats in the State Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Thursday, January 17, 2019, released the final list signed by the commission’s secretary, Rose Orianran-Anthony.
Across the country, there are 1, 066 candidates for the governorship elections, 14, 583 for the State Assembly elections and 806 for the FCT Area Council elections broken down into 105 Chairmanship candidates and 701 councillorship candidates.
Among the Governorship candidates cleared for the March 2 election were Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi, Africam Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr Jimi Agbaje, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Mr Owolabi Salis, Alliance for Democracy, AD among others.
Alimosho Constituency I has the highest number of candidates (29) vying for the State Assembly seats, while Alimosho II closely followed with 25 candidates.
Badagry Constituency I has 19 parties which have presented candidates for the Assembly seats while 17 candidates are contesting for the much coveted seat in Badagry Constituency II.
Agege Constituency I would be fielding 18 candidates including the incumbent representative and the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Agege Constituency II has fielded 18 candidates.
Ikeja Constituencies I and II have 16 and 17 candidates respectively while Epe Constituencies I and II fielded 17 and 14 candidates respectively.
17 candidates are vying for the Assembly seats in Ikorodu Constituency I with the incumbent occupant of the seat and the Majority Leader of House , Hon. Sanai Agunbiade as one of them while a total of 13 candidates are vying for the seats in Ikorodu Constituency II.
Kosofe Constituencies I and II have 16 and 12 candidates respectively, while Shomolu Constituencies I and II fielded 18 and 17 candidates respectively.
There are 10 candidates vying for the Lagos Island Constituency I seat while 9 candidates are contesting for the Lagos Island Constituency II seat.
In Mushin, 15 candidates each are contesting for the seats in Constituencies I and II.
Also, Surulere Constituency I has fielded 15 candidates for the seats while Surulere Constituency II is fielding 16 candidates.
There are 13 and 16 candidates for the Ajeromi/Ifelodun Constituencies I and II respectively while Amuwo Odofin Constituencies I and II have 16 candidates each for the seats in the forthcoming elections.
Apapa Constituencies I and II have 13 and 14 candidates respectively vying for the seats.
Eti-Osa Constituencies I and II are fielding 14 and 13 candidates respectively while Ibeju Lekki Constituencies I and II are fielding 17 and 10 candidates respectively.
There are 20 and 23 candidates vying for the seats in Ifako Ijaye Constituencies I and II respectively, while 12 and 13 candidates are contesting for the Lagos Mainland Constituencies I and II Assembly seats respectively.
More so, Ojo Constituencies I and II have 21 and 15 candidates respectively while Oshodi/Isolo Constituencies I and II are fielding 15 and 16 candidates respectively.
