The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, January 28, 2019, alleged that the Lagos State Executive Council led by His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has committed infractions by executing the 2019 budget without the input of the Assembly.
According to the official twitter handle of the Lagos State House of Assembly @Ishaofficial, Governor Ambode and his cabinet are thus mandated to defend their action before the House proceed on the commencement of impeachment proceeding.
THE IMPACT gathered that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, ruled after members deliberated on the report of a committee set up on budgetary performance.
It was gathered that the committee discovered that the 2019 budget, which has not been laid before the House as stipulated by the law, is already being implemented by the executive.
Another finding of the committee, according to the Assembly’s twitter handle, is that the 2018 budget failed to perform up to 50% as at the 3rd quarter of last year.
“A committee was set up and it discovered that the 2019 Budget is already being implemented by the Executive without being laid on the floor of the House. The Committee in its findings also noted that the 2018 budget, as at 3rd quarter, had not performed up to 50%.
“The Speaker, therefore, implored his colleagues to allow the Executive, led by the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to defend these infractions before we proceed on the right actions as stipulated by law”, the Assembly stated.
“Amidst all that have been said in the media , I would use this medium to clarify this; Lagos State House of Assembly cannot sit and scrutinize a budget which is already incurring expenditure”, Hon Obasa stated on the Assembly’s twitter handle.
