A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and a former House of Assembly and Council Chairmanship aspirant, Mr Saheed Ayo Ogunsame, has defected to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), with his supporters.
He decamped on Thursday, January 24, 2019, with about 100 of his supporters from the major opposition party .
According to many, his defection has dealt a major blow to PDP chances of making any impact in Ikorodu in the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking at the APC’s Secretariat during the party’s monthly meeting in Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Ogunsame, stated that he had been with the PDP for a long time without anything to show for it.
“We have decamped with many of our supporters into the APC at the state level on January 8, 2019, but our decampment will not be completed if we do not do same here in our local government. That explains the reason for our coming here today to join the winning party”, he stated.
“I have been in the PDP for many years. I had been a chairmanship and House of Assembly aspirants. I had also been a chieftain of the party up to the state level but there is absolutely nothing to show for it”.
While commending members of the APC for their willingness to accept them, he pledged his support to work towards the party’s victory in the coming elections.
“We are ready and prepared to work for all the APC candidates from the Presidency to Senate, House of Representatives and Assemblies candidates in order to ensure they all emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections. We shall join forces with our new party to achieve resounding victory.
While handling over the APC flag to Mr Ogunsame, the APC Chairman in Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji Taiwo Longe, welcomed the new entrants into the party.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, Alhaji Longe stated that victory is sure for his party in the coming general elections.
“We welcome our new members led by a person very well known to me. Our party is very accommodating and they will never regret joining us. We have been taking in new members from the PDP and other opposition parties.
“What then is remain of these parties, especially the PDP?”, he asked rhetorically.
“As a party, we are sure of total victory for all the APC candidates in Ikorodu division. Electorate know what we are capable of doing and there is no way they will ever go back to the opposition that had misruled and mismanaged our country for 16 years.
“We are ready to take our country, Lagos State and Ikorodu division to the next level of prosperity, abundance and good governance and we have tested and capable candidates that are going to do that”.
