-Unveils plans for old school, members’ welfare
The Class of 1995 of the premier college in Ikorodu, Oriwu College (now Oriwu Model College), under the aegis of Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), held her 3rd Annual General Meeting on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
The event, which was held at the Eunifrance Schools, Ikorodu, doubled as the End of the Year/New Year Party and was coming 24 years after the graduation of members of the set from the premier College.
The list of the new executive members elected were Mr Olanrewaju Kalejaiye (Chairman), Mrs Bimpe Ogbe (Vice Chairman), Kunle Adelabu (General Secretary), Kunle Bada (Assistant Secretary), Abiodun Shitta (Treasurer),Modinat Omotayo (Financial Secretary), and Jire Gbolu (Public Relations Officer).
Meanwhile, the new chairman, Mr Lanre Kalejaiye, in his acceptance speech, commended members for their dedication and commitment since the formation of the association in 2015
“I want to thank members of our great set for their commitment and dedication to the course of our association since inception. In particular, I want to appreciate you all for another successful Annual General Meeting.
“On behalf of other newly elected executive members, I thank you all for reposing your confidence in us and we assure you that we shall work towards taking our association to greater heights and make it the envy of other sets.
He also stated that the new officers shall continue to impact positively on their alma mata and members.
“We shall continue to give back to our old school through laudable programmes and projects. We shall also see to the welfare of our members who are in need of our support.
“On this note, I want to appeal to our members in Lagos, Nigeria and all parts of the world to support our administration with their dues and donations because we need the fund to execute laudable projects and programmes that we have outlined”, he appealed.
Earlier, while given the secretariat report, the outgone secretary, Kunle Adelabu, stated that the association recorded mixed developments in the year under review.
“In the second quarter of 2018, our association completed, commissioned and handed over a common room furnished with big screen set, DSTV, benches, fans and other appliances to the Principals and other members of the management staff of the school.
“The common-room was named after our first chairman, Late Engr. Bolanle Rahman Amodu, who worked tirelessly for its completion and also provided good and strong leadership for the association while he was with us. May Olodumare continue to give him rest.
“Within that year also, we were able to respond to unfortunate situations that we had no control over like the deaths of our first chairman, Late Engr. Bolanle Rahman Amodu, Late Mr Idowu Lawani and Mr Obinna…
“In our effort to give members sense of belonging and show concern, a Welfare Committee was set up to suggest ways through which we can impact meaningfully on our members”.
The Secretary also stated that the association was adequately represented at members’ social engagements within the year under review.
He listed institution of prize giving day, establishment of cooperative union, improved members’ welfare, participation at the 70th anniversary of their old school, slated for this year, and development of a website for improved interaction among members as some of the projects that the association intends to execute in 2019.
The Chairman, Annual General Meeting/New Year Planning Committee, Mr Shamsideen Odukoya, thanked members for their selfless support and commitment towards the successful planning and execution of the AGM.
