The Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Mr Samuel Olayinka Sogunro, his immediate past predecessor, Mr AbdulAzeez Lawal and 750 other staff members of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) have been honoured with Long Service/Meritorious awards in appreciation of their services to the institution.
The award presentation was held during the grand finale of the 40 years anniversary of the school at the Convocation Ground located on the premises of Ikorodu main campus on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
Out of the 752 awardees, 214 had served the institution between 31 and 36 years; 76 between 26 and 30 years; 79 between 21 and 25 years; 126 between 16 and 20 years and 257 between 10 and 15 years.
Meanwhile, in his address, Mr Samuel Sogunro, the LASPOTECH Rector, commended the staff members and students for their selfless service to the institution.
He stated that the institution has deemed it fit to honour its employees who have contributed immensely towards the development of the Polytechnic, adding that the awardees, who were categorized into five categories, have been selected for the long/meritorious awards in appreciation of their respective meritorious services.
Mr Jacob Bolaji Adewuyi of the School of Pure and Applied Science led the Long Service/Meritorious honour list having served for 36 years while others like Matthew Oiseomalaiye Ajayi of the School of Environmental Studies served for 35 years, and the trio of Mrs Afolabi Oluwakemi Awoniyi of the Library Department, Mr Oladapo Adeyemi Jenrola of the School of Liberal and Communication Studies and Mrs Adeteju Olufunmilayo Longe of the School of Pure and Applied Science had put in 34 years in the service of the 40 years old institution.
Those in the category of 32 years include Dr (Mrs) Victoria Olufadeke Adenle-Saheed (School of Agriculture), Mr Ogunkunle Boniface Ogundiran (School of Liberal and Communication studies), Mr Isaac Ademola Olorunfemi (School of Engineering), the former Rector of the institution, Mr AbdulAzeez Abisoye Lawal (School of Management and Business Studies), Mrs Adefunmilayo Alaba Manuwa (School of Pure and Applied Science), Mr Olutayo Olusola Okulaja (School of Pure and Applied Science) and Mr Wasiu Adenuga (School of Technology.
In the category of 31 years were Mrs Mariam Olufunmilayo Ukor, Mrs Bolanle Bosede Kolawole, Mr Adebayo Oluseyi Sadare and Mr Taofeek Olusola Batula, all from the Registry Department of the institution while Mrs Florence Adefunke Ojo (school of Engineering), Mr Rahmon Isah (School of Environmental Studies), Mrs Kudirat Adeola Banjo (School of Management and Business studies), Mrs Folashade Adunni Ayinde (School of Technology) and Mrs Christiana Modupeola Abidoye (School of Technology) completed the category.
More so, the awardees in the category of 30 years mark were Mrs Oluyinka Olufunmilayo Kolawole (Registry), Mr Oluremi Handsome Oniyemofe (Registry), Mr Olufemi Adegboyega Soetan (Registry), Mrs Abiodun Olajide (Library Department), Mrs Janet Oluremi Folorunsho Odunuga (Library Department), Mr Olufolabi Olatunbosun Olubajo (School of Engineering), Mr Isaac Gbolagade Omolumo (School of Management and Business Studies), Mr Simeon Kolawole Odetunde (School of Pure and Applied Studies), and Mrs Afusat Zainab Shotayo (School of Technology).
Other staff members honoured with the long service award were those who had served between 29 and 10 years.
Some of the dignitaries at the ceremony were His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Akeem Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, His Eminence (Asiwaju) Olorunfunmi Basorun, Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and first Secretary to the Lagos State Government, and Otunba (Sir) Comrade Ayodele Elesho, former Commissioner for Information, Lagos State and Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi, the Chairman, Governing Council of the institution.
