Bamigbetan Stresses Need For Integrated Information Management

Hon. kehinde Bamigbetan, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has stressed the need for a coordinated and integrated information management among two tiers of government in the State to widen the scope of information dissemination among the citizenry.

Bamigbetan, who disclosed this at a meeting held with Public Affairs Officers of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State, noted that coordinated information management would further help bring governance closer to the people.

The Commissioner charged the Local Government Public Affairs Officers to key into the ‘New Face of Lagos in the Cyber Space Project’ of the State Government by following all its social media platforms in order to expand the scope of government activities in the social media space.

He noted that it is an aberration in the present day society for any of the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State not to have a functional website, hence he advised the public affairs officers to ensure websites are developed to highlight activities in their respective domains.

While commending the few Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas that have already established their presence in the cyberspace, the Commissioner implored others to immediately register their presence with a view to further publicising and propagating the activities of their local governments and local council development areas.

Earlier, the Director, Social Media department, Mr. Deji Balogun highlighted some of the new features of the State’s website such as a Live Chat platform that enables members of the public to engage officials of the State Government in live conversations between 8.00am and 5.00pm each work day, weather update section, traffic update and trending news crawl among other notable features.

In the same vein, the Director Public Affairs department, Mrs. Toro Oladapo explained that two dedicated email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] that would allow for coordinated dissemination of news stories emanating from all the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State are functional and therefore, urged the Public Affairs Officers to take advantage of these platforms.

Similarly, Director, Information Production department, Mr. Abiola Fagunwa noted that the State now boasts of an efficient and effective Public Address System that each of the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas could make use of in disseminating their policies and programmes to the grassroots.
