The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, has presented exercise books and other writing materials to students in primary schools in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The monarch, who was a former State Counsel, is member of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs and Ikorodu Division Council of Obas and Chiefs.
About 12 primary schools benefitted from the royal gesture which involved the distribution of school materials such as exercise books, pencils, biros and others.
The event took place at the Adeboruwa palace in Igbogbo on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
Oba Kasali, while presenting the materials to students, said that it was part of his educational programmes designed to contribute to the development of education in his domain.
“This is part of what we promised the people that we would do when we ascend this throne about two years ago.
“The books and writing materials are meant for the less privileged who cannot afford them. I am sure that the head teachers and other tutors are in position to identify such pupils.
The royal father also emphasized the need for pupils to learn how to speak Yoruba language and do well in it as a subject in school.
“It is very disheartening that our culture and identity are fast going into oblivion. A situation where our children cannot speak Yoruba language except foreign languages is not good at all. Most of them do not perform very well in Yoruba language at school.
“We must all join hands in reversing this trends if we are not to completely loose our self identity”, the monarch charged the gathering .
Comrade Sesan Daini, the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, while speaking at the event, ommended the monarch for the initiative.
He added that the gesture by Oba Kasali is an exemplary way of supporting Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Lagos State’s efforts in developing the educational sector.
“What we are witnessing today is a product of hardwork, commitment and dedication to serve the people and the community by our revered royal father.
“The King understands the importance of education because he is educationally inclined.”
He enjoined the pupils to emulate the King who according to him, studied very hard to become a lawyer and State Counsel before the family and community pleaded with him to come and serve them.
“I want pupils that are here today to know that our Kabiyesi is a lawyer by profession and former State Counsel and they should make people like him their role models. It was while going about his service diligently that the community brought him to serve its people” , Comrade Daini stated.
Among the schools that benefited from the distribution of the exercise books and other writing materials were Anglican Primary School, Offin, Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo, Lajo Community Primary School, Lajo, LG Primary school, Oreta, Methodist Primary School, Elepe LG Primary School, Bayeku, Owode Primary School, Ibelefun, UAMC Primary School (Eleja), Igbogbo and Methodist Primary School, Ibeshe.
