Asiwaju Basorun @80: His Footprints on Sands of Time

My Thoughtful Thought

Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun

Footprints on the sands of time is a phrase from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ‘A Psalm of Life’,which describes the mark that great men leave on history.

He made reference to the phrase starting from verse 8 of the poem where he charges men to act while alive.

“Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time”.

Looking back at the 80 years of glorious existence of His Eminence, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, one would agree that he has left his footprints on the sands of time as dictated by Longfellow in his poem.

He has not only transversed many fields of human endeavours, he also reached there peak and today, he is still very much relevant in the scheme of things at divisional, state and national levels, compare to many of his contemporaries.

As part of his ways in  engraving his ‘footprints on sands of time’ is his penchant for writing and documenting his thoughts, ideas, ideals and perceptions.

Like or hate him, Asiwaju Bashorun remains one of the most lettered, documented and relevant political and community figures still alive in Ikorodu division today.

In this piece, we reproduced photographs of some of his books and other documents with which he has put his ‘Footprints on the sand of time’.

His biography, ‘Paramole O k’oro iwosi’, written by Pastor Soji Omotunde.
