Just like during the previous election periods, politicians jostling for party tickets have been engaging in poster war ahead of party primaries and 2019 general elections.

The poster campaign is an effective political propaganda used to persuade, motivate and convince  electorate to buy into aspirants’ ideals, programmes with the ultimate aim of making them vote for them.

However, to achieve this task, politicians deliberately choose symbol and philosophy which they display in their respective posters and paste them in strategic locations where they can have the desired effects on the populace.

As election fever grips the country, there are posters and banners of various forms, sizes and designs adorning the nooks and crannies of the every community across the country, including Ikorodu division.

From Ogolonto, the entry point into the division to Ita-Oluwo and Imota which are the other gateways in and out of the division, it’s posters war all the way.

The story is the same across the six local government and local council development areas in the division as party secretariats, garages, expressways, junctions, high rise buildings among other strategic locations are massively defaced and suffocated with various colourful posters by aspirants of political  offices.

A major observation in the present political season is that, unlike in the past, aspirants are using flex more than paper posters probably due to its durability.

But the question is, does campaign posters really have the power to influence the decision of the electorate regarding who they cast their votes for?

This question became necessary because of ‘poster attack’ by some politicians and their supporters who are destroying posters and banners belonging to their opponents.

After months of posters/banners war, it is now time for people to determine the fates of these aspirants and in a matter of weeks, we shall know to whose advantage is the posters war and attacks.

Finally, who is going to be responsible for getting rid of the environmental nuisance which these posters/banners would constitute  to the society after the elections?
