In the absence of any opposition, the incumbent member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson, would be going to the primary election unopposed.
The other aspirants, according to the report gathered by THE IMPACT, have dropped their aspirations for the sole position due to some factors.
Hon. Oyebola Ologijo was reported to have stepped down for the young and performing federal lawmaker after the intervention of a chieftain of the party, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, who called the two frontline politicians to a parley.
THE IMPACT further gathered that Asiwaju Basorun had intervened on the ground that the performing lawmaker deserves another term to represent the people of the division and told Hon. Ologijo to allow him consolidate on his achievements.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, Hon. Ologijo, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who decamped into the ruling party with hundreds of his supporters, stated that they joined APC to contribute to its progress and not for any selfish gain.
“In the first instance, our coming into the party is not to achieve any selfish gain or embark on any act that would threaten the peaceful co-existence in the party but to contribute our own quota to its development.
“Asiwaju Basorun is a well respectable leader that intervened and I cannot ignore such appeal. He is our leader who is providing necessary guide and we have to give him the honour.
“I have also rubbed minds with Hon. Benson and I can see that he also has the drive to take Ikorodu to greater height and since that is our dream, we have no choice but to abandon our political pursuit and give him the maximum support.
“We have resolved to work together to make him win the general election in 2019 and my campaign team are fully in support of the action.
THE IMPACT confirmed the intention of Hon. Ologijo to jostle with the incumbent for the sole seat of Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly in a recent report.
In the same vein, THE IMPACT also gathered that Hon. Owolabi Anifowoshe, who contested the position with Hon Benson alongside other aspirants in the 2015 general elections and who also is aspiring for the seat again, has also jettisoned the idea.
With this development, Hon. Benson may walk into the party’s primary as an unopposed candidate for the much coveted seat.
