Ayanbadejo FC, representing a zone in Ward D area of Ikorodu Local Government, beat Efunmade FC 1-0 to lift the 2018 edition of the Hon. Banwo Azeez Community Cup.
The tournament, which was organized by the Eid-El-Fitri Football Association, featured 12 teams from different areas in Ward D which is being represented in the legislative arm of the lkorodu Local Government by the sponsor, Hon. Banwo.
Ayanbadejo FC qualified for the final match, which was played at the Shams-El-Deen Central Playing Ground in Ikorodu, on Sunday, September 9, 2019, by beating Eyita FC 2-0 in one of the semi-final matches.
Hon. Banwo, in his address before the kick-off of the final match, thanked the participating teams and their officials for exhibiting the principles and spirits of sportsmanship throughout the championship.
His words: “It is a thing of joy that we are witnessing the final match today because of the discipline and commitments of the players and their officials. We have had many football tournaments which were unable to be concluded but today, a tournament that is being organized in my name is ending peacefully.
“Our aim is to positively engagement the youths and impact positively on our society. We have been doing the little that we can do and we can still do more with your support and cooperation.
“The present legislative assembly in Ikorodu Local Government is the best in the annals of Ikorodu political history. We have been doing everything to change the face of politics by engaging our community.
Efunmade FC captain was the only player to receive yellow card in the epic final match due to his rough tackle on one of his opponents in the 10th minute of the first after several warnings.
The two goalkeepers had a very busy day as they were constantly bombarded with shots by the players from both sides.They, however, did well in swiftly dealing with the shots most of which were on target.
The only goal of the tournament came in the 2nd minute of the match when Ayanbadejo FC striker, Quadri Ganiu, superbly converted a chance to give his team the lead.
After a lengthy deliberation among the match officials and organizers of the tournament shortly after the match, Efunbade FC goalkeeper, Lanre Oseni, was picked as the best goalkeeper of the tournament while Ayanbadejo FC playmaker, Quadri Sanni, and Eyita FC lethal striker, Oladele Tijani who scored six goal in the competition , emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and highest goalscorer respectively.
Present at the final match were Hon. Gbenga Awobajo, Hon. Olohunwa Oshodi, Hon. Toheeb Olowoeyo and Hon. Awolesi Omotayo among others.
