In fulfillment of a major part of his electoral promises which is periodic feedback to constituents on his representation, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade, the representative of Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly,on Wednesday, August 29,2018, presented his 3rd year account of stewardship to the residents of Ikorodu.
He presented feed back at a grand event tagged, ‘Official Account of Stewardship and Empowerment” which was held at the Ikorodu Town hall, Ikorodu.
Also at the well attended event, Hon. Agunbiade, who is also the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, empowered constituents with N20million, enhanced the capacity of transporters and motorcycle operators with the presentation of licenses and helmets respectively and also presented Public Address System to each of the the 3 Local Government Areas and 17 wards under his constituency.
More so,, 70 widows, who were trained about a week earlier, were presented with cheques of N20,000 each as business support while financial grant worth several millions was also given to several Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the Constituency.
Copies of the compilation of his legislative, representation and oversight achievements in the last three years, tagged, “Conviction for greater impact’ were equally distributed to the massive crowd of constituents and guests who filled the hall to the capacity.
Also included in the compilation were briefs of his achievements since 2007 when he first got the mandate to represent his people at the State Assembly.
Hon. Agunbiade, in his address, said, “I present to you the documentation of our journey from 2007 to 2011, 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2018. This is available for everyone present here today”, he stated with a sense of fulfillment.
He stated that he has given a practical representation and impactful motions which have helped in effective governance of the State.
“In 2016, I sponsored the Property Protection Bill with the support of Hon. Sikiru Osinowo, as the Chairman, Lands Committee, to curtail the incessant violence and nefarious activities of Land grabbers (Ajagungbales). The bill has been signed into law and has also become operational in the State.
“The State has inaugurated Special Task Force on land grabbers to tackle land grabbing. The law has helped to reduce the activities of land grabbers in the State and in Ikorodu in particular”, he stated.
Among motions that he sponsored and moved were security challenges on the waterways in the state, amendment of the tertiary institution law, renewed fight against kidnapping activities in the State, enforcement of the road traffic law on Ikorodu-Mile 12 road and need for the protection of road infrastructure.
“In October 2015, we introduced and launched the first Independence Day Mini Marathon for students of Secondary Schools in Ikorodu Constiuency I. The programme was aimed at discovering talents among the students and also to create healthy rivalry amongst schools that participated.
The lawmaker, who stated that he has organized three editions of the mini-marathon so far, added that the yearly event has been yielding intended results as some of the students, who had participated in the marathon, have been making the town proud in external engagements.
On Asa carnival, the lawmaker stated that, “With the ‘Ikorodu renaissance project’, we organized Asa carnival with the objective of resuscitating the dying culture of Asa. The carnival is the biggest tourist and cultural carnival in the history of Ikorodu division. The aim of the festival, among others, is to revive the dying culture of Asa in Ikorodu and this has been achieved as the Lagos State Government has endorsed Asa festival as an annual cultural festival for the State”.
He also stated that he facilitated the rehabilitation of Solomade palace road, Abiodun Ogunleye road and the road on Odumbo street.
“My intervention also brought about the ongoing construction of the Agric-Owutu-Arepo road to further open up the much dreaded area of Isawo and bring succor to the citizens of the State.
In the area of employment, Hon. Agunbiade stated that he has facilitated employment for 46 residents with the State government.
While accounting for his intervention in the area of education, the lawmaker stated that he facilitated the construction of 18 classrooms of 2 storey building at Odogunyan primary school.
Furthermore, he said, “In conjunction with Agbede CDA, I facilitated the construction of a new block of 14 classroms in Agbede Secondary School and I was also instrumental to the supply of furniture to the school.
“I was also instrumental to the construction of 14 block of classrooms at the Local Government Primary School, Isiu, upon the demand by the people of Isiu among others”.
Other areas highlighted by the three-term lawmaker to have impacted on his constituents were the provision of health insurance to 1000 residents, yearly staging of Best Brain Contest among students of secondary schools in Ikorodu, facilitation of free-interest loans for businesses, security and various forms of empowerment for constituents among many others.
