The former Secretary to the Lagos State Government and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Princess Adenrele Adeniran Ogunsanya topped the list of the eminent and prominent women who were honoured in Ikorodu for the emancipation of womanhood, contributions to governance and for impacting on the community at large.
She was honoured with the award of the Most Outstanding Community Heroine, which is the highest category of awards dedicated to women in Ikorodu division by the Starlight Legacy Celebrity Magazine (LCM).
Also honoured at the award ceremony organized by the Starlight Magazine were Hon. (Princess) Folashade Olabanji-Oba, the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, and Hon.Balikis Aderoju Ibrahim, the Majority Leader, Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Hon. Oba received the ‘Amazon of Governance’ award while Hon. Aderoju was given the ‘Future Leader’ award
Others in the category of the ‘Amazon of Governance’ award, which is the second highest category were Princess Olajumoke Jimbo-Ademehin, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Mrs Folashade Banjo, wife of the Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Alhaja Riskat Salisu, wife of the Chairman, Ijede LCDA and Mrs Usman Ibidapo.
Alhaja Basirat Akinsanya, Princess Scholastica Eguma (Nelly), Mrs Rashidat Oluwatoyin Saka, Mrs Victoria Olowu and Mrs Bolanle Kafilat Shobowale were all honoured with the ‘Agent of Development’ Award.
Others in the category of Future Leaders Award were Princess Adefolayiga Adebukola, Princess Abisoye Oredoyin, Hon. Motunrayo Alogba, Vice chairman, Ijede LCDA, Ms Ajibike Adebukola and Comrade Comfort Olafare, the President, Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU).
Special post humour award was conferred on late Mrs Folake Shokunbi (Iya Kalokalo), a former Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Adedamola Aderibigbe, the Publisher of the Starlight Legacy Celebrity Magazine,in his address, stated that women were being celebrated because of their roles in the community building.
He singled out Princess Ogunsanya, whom he described as an epitome of womanhood, a community builder and politician of note.
Aderibigbe added that seasoned educationists, career and accomplished women were contacted to deliver papers on ‘Role Of Women In Community Building’ and ‘Gender Equality In Civil Service And Politics’.
The Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Saheed Kolawole Shillings, the former Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu branch, in his welcome address, commended the Starlight Magazine for deeming it fit to honour women for their roles in the nation-building.
He challenged women to take a more significant roles in the political circle.
The lecturers, Prncess Adetope Kosoko, former Registrar, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Princess Abiodun Oyefusi, a Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Alhaja Basirat Akinsanya, a Director with the Lagos State Government and Vice Chairman, Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) , in their separate lectures, though, commended women for their roles in home, community and nation-building, challenged them to use their numerical strength and activeness to demand for more important roles in political, economic and public service sectors.
The speakers also challenged those women who have reached their peak in their respective professions and position of authority to assist others to develop.
Other dignitaries at the award ceremony were Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member, Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, former acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Banjo Adeola, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Fathiu Salisu, Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Agoro, Chairman, Imota LCDA, Comrade Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Ola Ameen, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Mr Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency I Seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Mr Lateef Anifowoshe, also an aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency I Seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly, among many others.
