A senatorial aspirant and the former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru has urged both the state and federal government to enforce strict adherence to safety rules on waterways while sympathising with the families of the victims of the unfortunate boat mishap in Ikorodu on Wednesday.
The unfortunate incident claimed five lives at the Ebute Terminal yesterday.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of the Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru for Senate, Comrade Kehinde Okeowo, on Thursday, Otunba Abiru who is the chairman, Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) also called on “the Lagos State Government to promptly improve on the transportation services on our water ways, to restore the confidence of Lagos commuters”
The Lagos East Senatorial aspirant also urged the government to enforce strict adherence on the waterways and challenged passengers to report any sharp practices
“To ensure strict adherence to safety measures by ferry operators on Lagos waterways, the Lagos East Users of ferry services must also report any sharp practices they may notice or observed among operators, in order to bring erring operators to book” he urged
Abiru also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and prayed for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
