Former Green Eagles player, Isa Sofoluwe, has commended the Lagos State Government for initiating viewing centres across the state during the just concluded 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The former ex-international, who is now involved in youths academy and development programmes, spoke with THE IMPACT yesterday (July 15) at the Ikorodu Viewing Centre located within the premises of the Ikorodu Town hall, during the final match of the World Cup between France and Croatia which ended in 4 – 2 in favour of the former.
“The initiative of the viewing centres by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, was okay and very commendable. Governor Ambode enjoined we, ex-internationals, to go round the viewing centres across the state as “faces of the game” , Sofoluwe stated.
“I give kudos to the state government for the initiative. It brings people within a community around to watch the world cup together. It is a very good initiative that would promote cooperation among the people”, he stated further.
Speaking on the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the ex-international rated the technical input highly.
“It is okay. It’s one of the best world cup tournaments so far. The new rules actually added positively to the tournament. The VAR (Video Assistant Referee) rule is very commendable because it helped in settling many controversies in such a way that satisfied the teams and the spectators”, Sofoluwe concluded.
