The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has said frantic efforts were being made to perfect grey areas in the Electricity Reform Bill before the House.
According to the Speaker grey areas such as the appointment of the Director-General, irrevocable guaranty, power to enter into contract as well as the protection of consumers be given proper considerations. Obasa who made this known when the Adhoc Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources lead by the acting Chairman, Hon. Folajimi Mohammed presented a report on the bill tagged
“A bill for a law to improve electricity supply to support economic development by the implementation of a sustained initiative in power generation, distribution and evacuation through an embedded power scheme in Lagos State, the enforcement of consumer rights and obligations and other related matters” to the House.
He noted that the sections in the bill are conflicting and therefore advised that the Committee should take its time to look into the grey areas and make necessary corrections before re-presenting the bill on another allotted day to members. Meanwhile, Hon. Olowo Rotimi added that there is need to protect the interest of the consumers especially in a situation where there are victims electrocuted due to the inefficiency of the organizations and where cables are not properly embedded.
The Speaker, however directed that the Ad Hoc committee be given more time do more thorough job on the bill.
