Efforts of Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, the representative of Ikorodu Constituency I and the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, in seeking  State Government’s intervention over bad roads in Ikorodu division have yielded positive results as three badly damaged roads are set to be repaired across the division.

The roads are Ikorodu-Shagamu, Ogolonto – Ebute (Sekumade road) and Gberigbe Road.

THE IMPACT gathered that Hon. Agunbiade has been on the necks of  Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the Ministry of Works, especially its Public Works department for a while.

His efforts, however, yielded desired result as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Engr. Erinle, and some directors joined Hon. Agunbiade on Monday, January 8, 2018, to tour the roads and marked areas that would be stabilized.

“After back and forth inspections of Ikorodu-Sagamu road, it was concluded that due to the complete collapse of some portions and before the federal Government would live up to its responsibility on the road, the Lagos State Public Works Corporation will commence palliative work this week” said Hon Agunbiade

We also gathered that the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu road would starting around the Oriwu Club, where the road has completely collapsed, down to the Sawmill axis.

Speaking with THE IMPACT during the tour, Hon. Agunbiade stated that aside fixing the damaged road through a palliative measure, the Ministry of Works is planning to create earth drain on a side of the road to prevent erosion pending the time the Federal Government would commence the main reconstruction work.

“We are aware of our people’s concerns and we are doing everything to address the situation concerning the state of our roads. Aside these three roads which Mr Governor has sanctioned their rehabilitations, we are also in discussion with relevant ministry on the rehabilitation of other roads within the locality. We are appealing to our people to bear with us for the delay”, he appealed.

During the tour of the Sekumade road, Barrister Bayo Omotubora and other senior members of the bar who were passing by alighted to commend Hon. Agunbiade for his representation and also engaged the Special Adviser to use his good office in making roads in Ikorodu motorable.

In the Special Adviser’s entourage were the Directors of Drains and Civil and other officials of the Ministry of Works.

While the palliative works are to commence this week on Shagamu and Sekumade roads, THE IMPACT gathered that work would start on Gbrigbe road after the completion of the two important roads.

Meanwhile, residents and roads users have appealed to the Federal and State Governments to see to the permanent rehabilitation and reconstruction of Ikorodu-Shagamu and Sekumade roads in good time to make life easier for them.
