Barr. Adeboye Dankuwo and Mr Olayinka Ogunlaja, both former Presidents of the union, spoke on the theme, ‘Students Unionism and Nation Building – The Nexus’.

Hon. Benson, in his address, commended the union for sustaining the work of its founders since 1955 and more importantly, for ensuring the emergence of first female as president.

“I want to commend you for being active students and for sustaining the objectives of the founding founders several decades ago”.

“More importantly, I want to commend you for thinking in the direction of change by allowing the first female president to emerge. That is a very good way to go”, he said.

“I have been working with previous governments of the union and I look forward to working with the new executives to uplift the youths and our community as a whole”, Hon. Benson pledged.

Also, the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman,  Comrade Sesan Daini, in his own address commended the immediate past ISU executive for a successful tenure and enjoined the new one to improve on the previous achievements.

“I want to commend the outgone executive for the positive impact its made on the students and by extension the youths of Igbogbo. Its approach to issues were matured and practical. The incoming have a lot to learn from you while they should also strive to improve on what has been achieved”.

He also called for the enlargement of the 63year old union for the purpose of creating bond and also for administrative reasons.

“Sincerely speaking, there is need to review the composition of the union for the purpose of enlarging it. We should try to look into the possibility of bringing in students from Oreta, Offin, Bayeku and other areas around Igbogbo into the Igbogbo Students Union”, Comrade Sesan suggested.

“This would help in furthering our bond and improve on the existing unity. It would also prevent duplication of duties on the part of the council and others”, he explained.

“I have been part of the students and youths movements and emancipation and I’m still very much part of you. I’m particularly impressed by your progressive tendency and you can be assured of our administration’s supports and cooperations”, he assured.
