And while acknowledging the importance of sports in educational development of youths, he said, “Education without sports is incomplete. A sound mind in a sound body plays an important role in the overall performance of the students/pupils. Bearing this in mind, the District deemed it necessary to organize sports festival with the aim of enhancing the overall well-being of the students, promoting healthy rivalry, developing talents and fostering unity amongst students”.
“I believe that when students engage in sporting activities, all the three domains of learning including cognitive (thinking), affective (emotion/thinking) and psychomotor (physical/kinesthetic) are developed and these enable students perform well academically”, TG/PS added.
“Our gathering here today is to contribute our quota to the development of our society and humanity through sport meets like the one we are witnessing. Sports is also an avenue for job creation without restriction. The only requirement is one’s ability to distinguish oneself, hence, the reason the district organized this meet. Students discovered to have natural talents here today will be nurtured through trainings and competitions”, he assured.
Mr Gbemi also thanked the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr Akinwunmi for recognizing sports as a viable and veritable economic industry and partnering with private organizations to develop it.
