Despite the uneasiness that is pervading the political turf in Ikorodu division and Lagos State as whole regarding the appointments of political office holders into the local government administration, the six councils in the division have successfully inaugurated their cabinets to boost administrative activities.
In Ikorodu Central Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, the executive chairman, sworn in seven political appointees on Monday, November 6, 2017.
The appointees are Alhaji Lateef Afinni, Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Yusuf Gbadebo Lawal, Supervisory Councilor for Works and Alhaji Morufu Jokomba, Supervisory Councilor for Special Duties.
Others are Mr Shakiru Showemimo, Supervisory Councilor for Environment, Mr Enifeni Babatunde, Supervisory Councilor for Education and Mrs Adebukola Soyiga, Supervisory Councilor for Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).
According to Hon. Adeshina, the Vice Chairman of the Council will oversee the Agriculture & Social Development Ministry.
In Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area,(LCDA), Hon. Adeola Banjo, the Chairman of the council, also on the same day sworn in seven appointees.
Among those sworn in by Hon. Banjo is Hon. Niyi Odugbesi, a close relative of the former State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Primate Charles Odugbesi, who was sworn in as the Secretary to the Council.
Others are Mr Sheriff Olakanmi , Supervisor for Agriculture, Youths & Sports, Mr Quam Adewunmi, Supervisor for Health, Mr Adeshina Akinyemi, Supervisor for Works, Mrs Bola Daramola, Suprevisor for Women and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Adeola Rasaq Dosunmu, Supervisor for Education and Mrs Idiat Agoro, Special Adviser on Special Duties.
Meanwhile,Hon. Adesina, in his address during the inauguration ceremony which was held at the Ikorodu Local Government Council Secretariat, urged the new appointees to help his administration achieve its objectives of meeting the yearnings and aspiration of the masses.
“I implore you all to continually remember that it is your duty to be responsive and responsible to the yearnings of our citizens while adopting a gradual but progressive approach, especially in the area of infrastructural development, regular environmental sanitation, maintenance of peace and harmony, provision of adequate security of lives and properties and revenue generation among others”,Adeshina stated.
“In view of this, I want to solicit for your utmost support and cooperation in actualizing the development plans and policies of this administration, so as to move Ikorodu forward”,he said.
He also listed the achievements of his administration in six sectors in the last three months.
According to the Chairman, his adminsiatration has successfully rehabilitated Adeyemi Owuyo Street, rehabilitated Molupa Street, provided complete computer system to some departments in the council as well as provision of furniture and air conditioning system in the legislative chamber.
Other achievements listed are sponsoring of 13 women to the 17th Annual National Women’s Conference, hosting of the Community Sensitization on Lassa Fever and Monkey pox and hosting free screening for prostrate and cervical cancer in conjunction with A+ Vanguard.
More so, Hon. Adeshina listed participation of Ikorodu people in the Adult Literacy Programme, embarking on Kick Refuse Out of Ikorodu, De-weeding of the council premises and training of the residents in N-Power programme among others as parts of his administration’s achievements in the last three months.
At Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Banjo, while welcoming the new political appointees into the administration, also listed his own administration’s achievements in the last 100 days.
According to him, areas where the council has impacted on the people are education, staff welfare, environmental sanitation, agriculture and health among others.
His words, “I run an open-door policy and ideas that will improve the council are welcome.”
He enjoined the new appointees to be proactive and ensure that his administration succeeds in implementing his laudable programmes.
Meanwhile,on Friday, November 3, 2017, Hon. Sesan Daini, Chairman of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, had sworn-in Barr. Adesanya Ayeni, a legal practitioner, as the Secretary to the Council as well as other appointees who will supervise different ministries of the council.
These appointees are Alhaja Iyabode Salisu, Mr. Yaya Ogunsowo, Mr. Yahaya Kamoru, Alhaji Waidi Yusuf and Mr. Taiye Obayomi.
In Ijede LCDA, the National Secretary of Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) and a chieftain of iCare Foundation initiated by Hon. Babajimi Benson, Mr Kunle Olanbiwoninu, was appointed as the Secretary to the Council, while Otunba Lawson occupies the same position in Ikorodu West LCDA.
