– Chairman assures Adamo residents of construction of roads
The chairman of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adeola Banjo and other political office holders and civil servants in the council on Thursday, October 19,2017, embarked on lassa fever and monkeypox awareness in the council.
The campaign took the council officials and staff to different streets and areas in the local government.
The event kicked-off around 10am in Isiu from where the sensitisation train moved to Adamo, Igbaga/Olorunda, Maya, Odogunyan and finally berthed at Odo-Nla Primary Health Centre.
Speaking at Adamo market, Hon. Banjo stated, “We are embarking on the campaign to sentize the public about dreadful lassa fever and monkeypox diseases. It is important that our people are well informed about these two deadly diseases and prevent against them.”
“Make sure that your market is clean at all time and consumable are kept under a very hygiene condition. You must also endaevour to wash your hands at all times. These are very important to prevent infections, he appealed to the marketers.
“It is now a must to wash your hands before eating and also wash everything that you want to eat very well.You must also wash your hands after handshake with anybody This is very crucial in preventing these deadly diseases”, he stated.
Hon. Banjo warned people against contact with monkeys, squirrels and rats to prevent contacting monkeypox.
He stated that the government of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode is working on reforming waste management system in the state, while also adding that the government will soon provide effective means of disposing wastes in markets across the state.
The chairman, who also used the campaign to dwell on other issues, expressed his displeasure over what he termed as the harrasment of the council revenue officers, especially in Adamo area of the local government and warned the perpetrators to discontinue such act.
While enjoining the residents to pay their taxes, Hon. Banjo also told them that his government will be working with the Community Development Associations (CDAs) in reconstructing roads on both sides of Adamo community.
He also stated that his administration will be embarking on street and house numbering for easy accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
In her own address at the awareness campaign, Mrs Akinde Ibiwunmi, the Medical Officer of Health, Ikorodu North LCDA, empahsized that the purpose of the capaign was to let people know about the deadly diseases and prevent against them.
“We are going from one area to the other to create awareness about lassa fever and monkeypox diseases. These are deadly diseases that can be prevented if there is adequate and effective education.”
She said that, “Personal and envoronmental hygiene, especially hand washing with soap and water and avoidance of contact with people infected with monkeypox are some of the ways this desease can be prevented.”
The health officer also warned against eating undercooked meat of the infected animals, while also enjoining people to take vaccination seriously.
On lassa fever, Mrs Ibiwunmi advised against dirty environment, allowing rats into the house and keeping of disposed garbage near living environment.
Earlier, the Chairman laid the foundation for the contruction of the Christian Fellowship building within the council secretariat in Isiu.
