As part of efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property, Lagos State Government has urged all residents to be more safety conscious in order to avert disasters during the harmattan/dry season.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan said this at the monthly interactive session organized by the State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for the Community Development Committees, Community Development Associations and other Stakeholders at the Lagos Island Local Government Secretariat.
He implored the residents to be more safety conscious in handling electrical and technology appliances, saying that if not properly handled, a spark could cause fire outbreak, leading to loss of lives and destruction of valuable goods.
Bamigbetan commended the efforts of the State Government on safety awareness campaigns through its Agencies at the various Local Government levels and called on Lagosians to also support the State`s developmental plans and projects for sustainable infrastructural development.
In his remarks, the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Adeshina Semiu advised the residents to be careful in handling electronic appliances, noting that majority of fire disasters are caused by carelessness of individuals.
He appealed to the residents to have fire detectors and extinguishers in their homes, offices and vehicles for use in case of any fire outbreak as well as call the emergency free toll lines – 112 or 767.
The Executive Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government, Mr. Adetoyese Olusi, also implored the Community Development Committees (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) to imbibe the benefits of the interactive session and replicate it in their respective communities.
He pledged the Council’s support to the State Government and Community Development Associations within the jurisdiction of Lagos Island Local Government.
